From the Register:
A US defence department advisory board has warned of the danger that American war robots scheduled for delivery within a decade might be riddled with malicious code. The kill machines will use software largely written overseas, and it is feared that sinister forces might meddle with it in production, thus gaining control of the future mechanoid military.

Via Overlawyered.com:In Omaha, which recently enacted a restaurant smoking ban, authorities are urging vigilant citizens who notice illicit smoking to call 911 to summon a police response. The local emergency coordinator has objected, saying 911 calls over smoking could overwhelm the system and distract dispatchers from more dire emergencies, but the police department says it is sticking by its advisory.
or perhaps, you could just ask the person not to smoke. Then, if you get your ass kicked, call the police.

on their acquisition by HP and to me, since I was an early angel investor in SPI - so long ago I cannot remember what year it was. Their application to the ATDC had just been rejected as they were viewed as 'unreceptive to coaching', IIRC. I was an entrepreneur-in-residence at ATDC at the time, so it must have late 2000. For what it's worth, they were indeed unreceptive to coaching, except from Brian Cohen who has done a great job as CEO.

From SFGAte.com comes this:
States will be required to help evacuate pets during a natural disaster such as a hurricane or earthquake or risk losing federal money under a bill signed Friday by President Bush.I'll keep it short here:
- This is dangerous. Scared animals are dangerous
- This is expensive.
The law also authorizes FEMA to provide additional money to create pet-friendly shelters and provide special assistance to pet owners.
