hash-house-terrorists

In the latest completely stupid culture of fear incident, a couple of Hash House Harriers were arrested for putting flour on the ground near an Ikea. The sad part, well one of the sad parts, is that the man arrested is a German citizen who joined the running group to meet friends. Another sad part is this quote from the city spokesperson:
Mayorga said, "We can't take any situation lightly. We didn't know who these people were. We didn't know what this substance was and in the best interest of the citizens of New Haven, we had to take it seriously."I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure there is no chemical or biological agent that is effective by being thrown on the ground in pile outside. What would be good is for the city to have a process whereby an uninformed officer can make a call to someone who then says there is no need to call the Police, Fire, Health, state police and FBI for someone playing a harmless game.

For those of you who think Georgia is filled with nothing but lead-poisoned moonshine drinkers and has torn down everything worth preserving (well, I think Sherman started the trend) and therefore would not be worthy of federal funds from DHS, I ask you: What about our Kangaroos?

Security Focus has a breif on the SEC's action to suspend trading in pump & dump stocks. The full SEC press release is here. From the press release:
On Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, shares in Apparel Manufacturing Associates, Inc. (APPM) closed at $.06, with a trading volume of 3,500 shares. After a weekend spam campaign distributed emails proclaiming, "Huge news expected out on APPM, get in before the wire, We're taking it all the way to $1.00," trading volume on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, hit 484,568 shares with the price spiking to over 19 cents a share. Two days later the price climbed to $.45. By Dec. 27, 2006, the price was back down to $.10 on trading volume of 65,350 shares.Maybe I'm missing something here, but don't you think the pump and dumpers sold their stocks before the end of the year? I mean it's not like they were waiting to get the income into the next tax year.

Apologies to anyone who tried to reach our server this weekend. We had an unexpected surge in interest in downloading the server. We have moved the non-torrent downloads to ftp and will be adding bandwidth over time. In the meantime, please use the torrent!!
